Administrative Assistant

Acquisitions and Access Management

Acquisitions and Access Management manages the acquisition, processing, cataloging, reformatting, and general care of all revealed Literary materials, together with books, serials, microforms, and on-line materials. The department ensures the completeness and accuracy of online catalog records and additionally provides cataloging and alternative resources for traditional and innovative access to rare Literary collections, including rare books, graphic materials, ephemera, and maps with remote digital resources. The department supports the congressionally designated Federal Depository Literary and serves as administrator of the State Publications Depository Program.


Description Services

Native Records Services

The Native Records Services Branch is charged with preserving, cataloging, and providing access to the records that document the daily activities of Virginia’s counties, towns, and freelance cities. The branch administers the Circuit Court Records Preservation Program (CCRP), a program that has grant funds to the Commonwealth’s 120 circuit court clerks to assist preserve the traditionally valuable records maintained in their offices and those that are transferred to the LVA for archival processing and storage.

Newspaper Project

The Virginia Newspaper Project (VNP), established in 1993, is half of the United States Newspaper Program (USNP), similarly because the National Digital Newpaper Program (NDNP). Project workers work to locate, describe, inventory, preserve, and offer public access–via microfilm as well as digitally–to United States imprint newspapers housed within the commonwealth.

Facilities Management

Workplace of Facilities Management is accountable for the operation and maintenance of the Literary’s facilities, using the newest technology to confirm environmental conditions and security measures are in place to preserve and defend the Literary’s rare and priceless collections. Support and patron services embrace coordination of the use of the general public meeting rooms in the building for internal and external groups, patron information and reception services, mail and delivery and housekeeping.

Monetary Services

Fiscal Services includes comprehensive accounting, budget, financial reporting and procurement programs, managing the Literary’s fiscal resources to make sure compliance within state and federal guidelines and laws.

Human Resources

The Workplace of Human Resource Management provides comprehensive personnel services to classified employees in the areas of employment, compensation, training and development, and employee relations. Limited services are provided to wage and temporary agency placements, further on native public literaries upon request.

Electronic Resources and Web Services

Digital Initiatives and Internet Services employees offer steerage, project oversight, and technical management for the Literary’s digital and internet-connected comes and programs, as well our integrated Literary and digital asset management systems.

Employees and Patron Services

Staff and Patron Services provides Reading Space systems management, in-house SQL application and database development, project management, business method analysis and system needs development help.

Literary Development and Networking

The Literary Development and Networking division provides skilled consultation and support to the ninety one public Literary systems in Virginia likewise as to trustees, Friends of the Literary, etc. The division sponsors continuing teaching programs for Literary staff and therefore the statewide Summer Reading Program for youngsters. The division manages state aid grants and federal (LSTA) funds within the Find It Virginia database program, and assists libraries with other grant programs like E-Rate and Bill & Melinda Gates foundation programs.

Photographic and Digital Imaging

Photographic and Digital Imaging Services provides the following product and services using state-of-the-art equipment: digital imaging, photography, microfilm prints, digital prints of maps archival materials, papers, drawings, documents, photographs, plates and rare books. The Graphic Style Workplace provides all aspects of graphic design for agency publications, books, documents and exhibits.

Public Services and Outreach

Stacks Department

The Stacks staff are accountable for the retrieval and reshelving of Literary and archival materials, together with print, microform, and archival material, and for the coordination and oversight of shelf-reading, basic collection maintenance, and appropriate access to collections.
